The concept was based on the idea of designing an open and welcoming building, whilst still maintaining an aura of respectability and representative character.
The courthouse is situated in the distinctive context of the District Court, the Prosecutors’ Office and the Marshall Office, which are either existing or under construction. An adjacent plot is occupied by a music school.
A uniform structure of the façade balances out the irregular contour of the building. Otherwise closely spaced wood slats thin out in two locations: the public space of the ground floor and the conference room on the highest floor.
The main entrance is accessible from a public square floored with triangular slabs. An open layout was introduced on the ground floor, with all facilities gathered in one block, so that users can easily find their way. Patios were introduced to provide as much natural light as possible.
