NEW AGORA BUILDING INTERIORS
1ST PRIZE

CONTEXT / ASSUMPTIONS

The competition design is a new proposal for Agora building interiors, designed by JEMS ARCHITEKCI in 2002.

New ways of work, employee mobility, technological mobility, miniaturization of devices and digitalization of archiving have created an opportunity to be better reflected in the arrangement of concepts guiding the designers of the building: "openness, communication, continuity of space, permeation, blurring of borders, dialogue between different types of space".

The original values of AGORA's image: openness, modernity, friendly working environment devoid of hierarchy, freedom of exchanging thought, ease of discussion are still relevant today.

Basing on the above assumptions, it was assumed that the new arrangement is to be a continuation of the original functional and spatial architectural ideas of the building; the task is to adapt the space to the changing technological reality, and to create a working environment corresponding to contemporary needs of the users.

The arrangement is another layer in a building with a very strong architectural identity and, at the same time, a strongly domesticated, "long inhabited" building.

SPATIAL CONCEPT - FUNCTION LAYOUT/ ZONING

Access to daylight and acoustic conditions have become, in accordance with the ordering party's guidelines, the most important elements according to which the working space has been planned. The new arrangement improves lighting conditions and acoustic atmosphere of the working space.

The arrangement is characterized by gradation of types of workplaces and gradation of communication from the busiest to the slowest and quieter places.

Individual workplaces have been separated from busy and noisy areas by zones of more private meeting rooms and ad hoc meeting spots.

SPATIAL ORGANISATION OF WORKPLACES

A variety of workplaces, meeting areas places to relax have been planned in order to best adapt to the new activity-based work models, and to enable employees to choose a workplace tailored to their specific tasks and preferences (worked in concentration, working in an informal atmosphere, working in groups).

GREENERY

An unquestionable advantage of the space, as well as a factor co-creating the microclimate of the building, is the greenery organized along vertical communication routes, as well as dispersed greenery owned by individual users, accumulated over the years.

Under the new arrangement, a system of flowerbeds of various sizes, located in the immediate vicinity of workplaces, has been envisaged for individual users. Organized greenery is planned to be enriched with flower pot compositions arranged to form functional partitions between individual zones.
