BIELSKO-BIALA MUSEUM AND CASTLE ATRIUM ROOFING

The design transfroms an outdoor atrium into a multifunctional „chamber” – an indoor extension of the Museum’s space.

A custom structure placed in the atrium brings traditional interior design elements, such as canopy, to mind. The structure is based on four steel poles and a grate. The rooftop rests upon the structure, which means that is does not affect the construction of the castle.

The structure also serves as a base for mounting of screens, lighting and speakers necessary to hold events such as exhibitions, plays, readings, concerts or film projections.

Marble slabs, which pave the atrium, are shaped in a way that mimics the irregular shape of the space. Electrical outlets are distributed across the floor to allow for different arrangements.

Perforated steel modules make up a semitransparent, decorative structure that filters and diffuses the overhead light.  Each one of the 20 squares contains 25 modules.

Glass rootop with aluminium metalwork rests on a steel grate.
